Dr. Andrew Cortes

Dr. Andrew Cortes was born in New York City and raised in Long Island, NY. Dr. Cortes’ academic interests led him to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Cornell University and subsequently he attended SUNY Downstate Medical Center for medical school. He then completed an Intern year in Internal Medicine at Stony Brook University Hospital before returning to SUNY Downstate for four years of residency in Diagnostic Radiology. Subsequent to this, Dr. Cortes partook in a dedicated year of fellowship training in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill Hospital system.
Dr. Cortes is Board Certified in Vascular and Interventional Radiology as well as Diagnostic Radiology. His early years post-training were spent providing care in a community setting and involved the full gamut of interventional procedures as well as diagnostic imaging. Dr. Cortes then developed a particular interest in the field of Vein medicine as well as embolization treatments. This includes vast experience in: vein ablation, vein sclerotherapy, phlebectomy, venous stenting, ovarian vein embolization, varicocele embolization, uterine fibroid embolization, prostate artery embolization, genicular artery embolization, amongst others.
Dr. Cortes is fluent in English and Spanish and also maintains a proficiency in Italian and French. His most notable characteristic is his dedication to learning about each of his patients and developing a strong trusting relationship with them. Aside from his professional life, Dr. Cortes enjoys spending time with his family and friends, is an avid sports enthusiast, and loves reading.
